Don't bring the wrong things! Sex toys are illegal in these areas.
When you're preparing to embark on a journey to a foreign destination, and you're thinking of bringing your favorite sex toys along, please read this article before you happily pack them into your suitcase. Because in some countries, possession of sex toys is strictly prohibited!
Generally speaking, you can confidently travel the world with sex toys. Of course, don't brandish them in public—but using your "partner" in private is perfectly fine.
In countries where sex toys are prohibited, there are very strict (mostly religious) social norms designed to exclude anything considered "obscene" or "vulgar" from public life. Penalties for violating these regulations vary greatly—from confiscation of toys by customs to severe imprisonment. Therefore, it is essential to check the relevant laws of your destination before you travel! The following list serves as a reference.

Thailand🇹🇭
You might not believe it—this country, famous for its "sex tourism," actually strictly prohibits the sale and possession of sex toys. Being caught with sex toys can result in up to three years in prison and a fine of 60,000 baht (approximately 13,000 RMB). In Bangkok, the illegal sale of sex toys is a thriving underground business. You can even buy them on the street, especially in the red-light district. However, the police conduct regular raids, and sellers, possessors, and smugglers can all be arrested.

Saudi Arabia 🇸🇦
Saudi Arabia is a country with extremely strict laws. For example, drinking alcohol, brewing alcohol, selling or possessing alcohol are completely prohibited. Violators may face penalties ranging from deportation (for foreigners) to imprisonment and even caning. Here, sex toys are considered the same as pornography. All sex toys, pornographic books, magazines, videos, etc., are prohibited from entering the country. Even items that resemble sex toys—including some massage devices—may be considered illegal. Even photos of models wearing lingerie, bikinis, or swimsuits may be considered "pornographic content."

India🇮🇳
Indian law regarding sex toys is rather vague. Making, distributing, or spreading pornography is illegal and can result in imprisonment and hefty fines. However, watching pornography at home is not prohibited. The situation is similar with sex toys: they are not explicitly prohibited and can be used in private spaces. However, publicly displaying them, such as in shop windows, or sharing photos of them online, may be considered "obscene" and thus violate the law.
As for what constitutes "obscenity," this is a very vague gray area in India, and the specific judgment often varies depending on the context and the subjective opinion of law enforcement. However, one thing is clear: bringing sex toys into the country is prohibited. In other words, even if you only put toys in your suitcase, you may not be able to get through customs smoothly.

Interestingly, in February 2021, India welcomed its first legal sex shop. However, ironically, the shop was forced to close after only one month. The reason for the closure wasn't legal prohibition, but rather the local village chief's extreme dissatisfaction with the shop, claiming the owner lacked a "proper business license," and thus ordering its shutdown.
Maldives 🇲🇻
The Maldives is considered a paradise on earth, an ideal destination for honeymoons or romantic getaways. However, please note: leave all sex toys at home, as they are considered pornographic and are strictly prohibited there. If customs finds sex toys in your luggage, the consequences are usually not severe, but the situation can be very embarrassing. The most common course of action is confiscation, but you may also be required to return to your home country on the same flight. If you are a Maldivian resident, you should be even more careful, as possession of sex toys in this case could lead to imprisonment.

Vietnam🇻🇳
In Vietnam, it is illegal to buy or bring sex toys into the country. This means that any toys in your luggage are prohibited. If discovered by customs, these items will be confiscated immediately. Sex remains a highly sensitive and taboo topic in Vietnamese society. However, similar to Thailand, the underground sex toy trade is very active and thrives through clandestine channels.

United Arab Emirates 🇦🇪
Sex toys are strictly prohibited in the UAE. If found in possession of such items, you may face formal criminal prosecution.

Malaysia 🇲🇾
While you might see various brothels or sex shops in Malaysia, these are actually illegal. Similarly, importing or possessing sex toys is also illegal in Malaysia. Under the law, these items are classified as "obscene articles." If caught, you could face hefty fines or even imprisonment.

USA🇺🇸
The US? Sex toys can't possibly be banned there, right? In most cases, that's true. You can confidently bring your favorite toys when traveling to the US. However, two states have stricter laws—Alabama and Texas. In Alabama, buying and selling sex toys is illegal (unless you have a legitimate medical reason), but simply possessing them is not illegal.

In other words, you can theoretically bring your own sex toys when traveling to Alabama, but if you plan to buy a new one there, you might not be able to. In Texas, sex toys are not entirely prohibited, and buying and selling them is legal. However, there used to be a strange rule in the state: you cannot possess more than five sex toys. Theoretically, possessing six or more could result in imprisonment or a hefty fine. But this law is highly controversial, and in reality, it is rarely enforced.
